Ryan McAdams conductor
Ksenija Sidorova accordion and bandoneon

STRAVINSKIJ Concerto for chamber orchestra, Dumbarton Oaks
BACH Concerto BWV 1052 (version for accordion and strings)
PIAZZOLLA Concerto for bandoneon and orchestra, Aconcagua (1979)
GINASTERA Variations Concertante Op.23

This is Ryan McAdam’s debut at ORT! He is a young, vivacious American conductor who is very connected to Florence because he made his European debut here seven years ago, invited by the Maggio. His career in the States was primarily working with Lorin Maazel and James Levine. The first part of his program begins with a Bach Concerto designed for violin, then transposed by the harp master and tonight presented in a singular accordion translation (by Latvian singer Ksenija Sidorova). There is another concerto, Dumbarton Oaks. The title comes from the name of an estate in the US District of Columbia where the composition was first performed in 1938. The second part of the evening, set in Argentina, honors the two key players of the last century: Ginaster who redefines folklore and Piazzolla who’s bandoneón moves at the pace of a tango.
