    From the historical 20th century to Beethoven’s great symphonic works: this is the programme presented by Diego Ceretta, conducting the Orchestra della Toscana, for the concert at the Teatro Garibaldi in Figline.

    The programme opens with Dumbarton Oaks by Igor Stravinsky, a refined chamber concerto from the composer’s neoclassical period, in which references to the forms of the past are combined with incisive and modern rhythmic writing. At the heart of the evening, cellist Silvia Chiesa performs Alfredo Casella’s Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, Op. 58, one of the most representative works of the 20th-century Italian repertoire.

    The concert concludes with Symphony No. 6, Op. 68 “Pastoral” by Ludwig van Beethoven, a masterpiece that transforms inspiration drawn from nature into a musical narrative of extraordinary immediacy, formal balance and evocative power.
