Two works linked to civil and spiritual themes make up the programme conducted by Diego Ceretta for the Orchestra della Toscana, which brings the season to a close.

The concert opens with Metamorphosen by Richard Strauss, an elegy for 23 strings composed in the final months of the Second World War, featuring a restrained style and dense counterpoint.

This is followed by a complete performance of the incidental music for Egmont by Ludwig van Beethoven, inspired by the drama of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the theme of freedom against oppression. Featuring the ORT, soprano Chelsea Zurflüh and Peppe Servillo as narrator.
