    To mark the opening of the Accademia Chigiana’s ‘Micat in Vertice’ season at the Teatro dei Rinnovati in Siena, Diego Ceretta conducts the Orchestra della Toscana alongside clarinettist David Krakauer.

    The programme opens with Zoltán Kodály’s Galánta Dances, inspired by Hungarian folk tradition and rich in orchestral colour. At the heart of the programme, Krakauer performs Fretless’, the Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra co-written with Kathleen Tagg, a work that blends klezmer, jazz and contemporary music in an original and virtuosic style.

    The concert concludes with Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 in E minor, Op. 98, a masterpiece of Romantic symphonic music in which formal rigour and intense expressiveness strike a balance of extraordinary power.
