Italian atmospheres, classical brilliance and romantic virtuosity: the Orchestra della Toscana, conducted by Diego Ceretta, brings Italian musical excellence to Spain with a concert at the Center Performing Arts and Music in Salamanca.
The programme spans the European nineteenth century in a dialogue between North and South, German spirit and Mediterranean warmth. It opens with Schubert‘s Italian-style Overture, followed by Schumann‘s Overture, Scherzo and Finale, Op. 52, a brilliant example of symphonic architecture. The highlight of the evening is Weber‘s Concerto No. 2 for Clarinet and Orchestra, Op. 74, performed by Kevin Spagnolo, winner of the Geneva Competition and acclaimed for his impeccable technique and overwhelming musicality. The programme is completed by Mendelssohn‘s fairy-tale Das Märchen von der schönen Melusine and sunny Italian Symphony, together with Mozart‘s Symphony No. 39, a work of formal balance and emotional intensity.
