Six wonderful Mozart symphonies for James Conlon, one of the greatest and most respected living conductors, on his debut as honorary director of Orchestra della Toscana. Conlon, a US citizen with a southern Italian background, currently leads the Los Angeles Opera and the Rai National Symphony Orchestra in Turin. Divided between two concerts, the six symphonies trace the composer’s development from adolescence to maturity.
The three symphonies written in summer 1788 conclude in this programme with the K.550 – more restless, hesitant and tragic than many other Mozart scores – and the joyful K.551 “Jupiter”. This second concert also features the K.297, known as “Paris” because it was composed by the twenty-two-year-old Mozart for the French capital.
