The concert by the Hortensia Quartet, dedicated to two key works of nineteenth-century chamber music: the ‘only’ string quartet by Giuseppe Verdi and the ‘last’ by Felix Mendelssohn. Composed after the death of his sister Fanny, Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 6, Op. 80 is imbued with intense emotional tension. Alongside it, Verdi’s String Quartet in E minor reveals a surprising side to the great opera composer, combining energy with contrapuntal refinement.

Musica Diffusa, the ORT’s music series that takes over all five districts of Florence, forms part of AUTUNNO FIORENTINO, organised by the Municipality of Florence with the support of the Directorate-General for the Performing Arts of the Ministry of Culture.

It is organised in collaboration with Fondazione Solidarietà Caritas ETS Firenze. We would like to thank Fondazione Leopolda, Comunità di San Leolino – Certosa di Firenze and Fondazione Teatro della Toscana for their hospitality.

You can make a DONATION online and/or at the collection points set up during the concerts to provide a hot meal for those most in need, in support of the Caritas soup kitchens, in collaboration with Fondazione Solidarietà Caritas.
