    Different eras and musical languages feature in the programme conducted by Giuseppe Mengoli.

    The Orchestra della Toscana opens with Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1, Op. 25 “Classical”, a modern homage to 18th-century forms, filtered through a dry and precise 20th-century sensibility.

    Mario Caroli then takes the solo part in Joachim Andersen’s Konzertstück Op. 3 for Flute and Orchestra, a rarely heard work that showcases the technical and expressive possibilities of the instrument.

    The programme concludes with Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 in B flat major, Op. 56 “Scottish”, inspired by the composer’s journey to Scotland and characterised by a compact and evocative orchestral texture.
