  • Music for an ending

On the fiftieth anniversary of the poet’s death, SZ Sugar publishes Musica per una fine, an unpublished work by Morricone featuring the voice of Pasolini. A project that intertwines music, poetry and technology, with the collaboration of Fondazione ORT and K-array

On 2 November, the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Pier Paolo Pasolini, Sz Sugar released the first ever recording of Musica per una fine (Music for an Ending) on all major streaming platforms (see link to Spotify below). The song was born from the artistic partnership between Ennio Morricone and the poet, and features Pasolini’s own voice.

At the heart of the four-part mixed choir, orchestra and magnetic tape, composed in 1998, is Pasolini’s voice reading Gli italiani, the poem-denunciation that he later entrusted to the composer.

The recording, now released, was recorded at the Teatro Verdi in Florence on 24 September by the Orchestra della Toscana and the Coro Harmonia Cantata conducted by Raffaele Puccianti.

K-array, a Tuscan technology company and world leader in the manufacture of sound amplification systems, contributed to the project, enabling the narrative and symbolic rebirth of the piece.

Through the production of a documentary and the purchase of the synchronisation rights to the piece, it was able to recount the journey that led to the realisation of the project, while presenting the work in an authentic and profound way, restoring its meaning and value. A journey of encounter between art, sound and memory.

The video of the song and the complete documentary are available at this link, or by clicking on the image below (once you have entered, scroll down).

We invite you to enter in silence, letting the notes and words guide your listening.

With this initiative, K-array continues to promote dialogue between technology and culture, offering the public not only quality sound, but also an experience rich in meaning and value.

The release of Musica per una fine is part of SZ Sugar’s commitment to bringing to light or rediscovering lesser-known compositions by Morricone, which also includes the staging of Partenope at the San Carlo Theatre in Naples on 12 and 14 December, directed by Vanessa Beecroft and conducted by Riccardo Frizza, with a cast that includes Jessica Pratt and Maria Agresta in the role of Partenope.

Finally, worth noting is Mario Airò’s tribute to Pasolini and Morricone, created as part of the SZ Sugar – miart commission 2025. Mario Airò’s work celebrates the encounter between the two artists, transforming Musica per una fine into a visual gesture: an upside-down rose, steeped in colour, symbolising an emotion that transcends time – where poetry and music resonate together once again.
