From late Romanticism to the height of the 20th century, passing through the precocious talent of Mendelssohn: at the Teatro dei Rozzi in Siena, a programme rich in nuances and instrumental dialogues is staged, entrusted to the baton of Diego Ceretta, principal conductor of the ORT, returning to a repertoire that compares intimacy and symphonic impetus.

Opening is Anton Webern‘s Langsamer Satz for strings, written in 1905, at the height of his youth: a lyrical homage to German Romanticism, imbued with melancholy and emotional depth, still close to the expressive universe of Brahms and Mahler.

This is followed by the brilliant Duet-Concertino for clarinet, bassoon, strings and harp by Richard Strauss (1947): a true musical fairytale, made up of pursuits, contrasts and complicity between the two solo instruments. An elegant and ironic score, suspended between narration and virtuosity. The protagonists are Emilio Checchini on clarinet and Umberto Codecà on bassoon, first parts of the ORT.
In closing, Felix Mendelssohn‘s Symphony No. 1 op. 11, composed when he was only fifteen years old: surprising for its maturity and freshness, a work that already reveals the composer’s accomplished style, between formal balance and vibrant lyricism.
