  • Andrea Tacchi

The sophisticated and communicative musician Andrea Tacchi was first violin with the Orchestra della Toscana since the beginning, having helped to found the orchestra in 1980 alongside Massimo de Bernart, Luciano Berio and Aldo Bennici.
The orchestra was his home all these years.

Tacchi was the undisputed sound and leader of the ORT, and immediately recognizable by his wonderful and unmistakable cloud of curly white hair.
The esteem he enjoyed as a pillar of the organization spread far beyond regional borders. His presence was contested by Santa Cecilia and the Scala (following a European tour with Riccardo Muti in 1999). If he hadn’t preferred to stay in Florence for family reasons, he would have been welcomed anywhere in the world with open arms.
A pupil of Roberto Michelucci and Franco Rossi at the “Cherubini” conservatoire (where he taught from 1977 to 1995), he began his international concert career very young, in the Trio di Fiesole (with Gabrio Fanti on piano and Andrea Nannoni on cello) and in the Nuovo Quartetto with Nannoni, violinist Carlo Chiarappa and the already legendary Piero Farulli on viola.
He was involved in countless premieres and played Berio’s “Corale” and Peter Maxwell Davies’ “A Spell for Green Corn” conducted by the composers.
He was always receptive to chamber music in its most eclectic forms, and over the years instigated numerous prestigious ensembles. Andrea left us unexpectedly on 26th September 2016, aged just 63.
For all those who were able to listen and appreciate his qualities as an artist and a human being, his presence will remain alive and intense. We miss him very much, and the echo of his music will always be with us.
