Ludwig van Beethoven / Symphony No. 4, Op. 60

The concert held at the Teatro degli Animosi in Carrara offers a program that combines Nordic intensity, classical lyricism, and Beethovenian brilliance. On the podium is Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, a young Austrian conductor and violinist, now Music Director of the Milan Symphony Orchestra, known for his energetic gestures, clear vision, and narrative sensitivity.

The evening opens with Jean Sibelius‘s ‘La Morte di Mélisande’, a suspended and melancholic piece from the suite inspired by Maeterlinck’s symbolist drama.

This is followed by Franz Joseph Haydn‘s Concerto No. 2 in D major for cello and orchestra, written in the 1780s, elegant and brilliant, entrusted to Jeremias Fliedl, a young Austrian cellist appreciated for his intensity and timbral quality.

The concert concludes with Ludwig van Beethoven‘s Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major, Op. 60, a luminous and compact work, constructed with intelligence and vitality, composed in 1806 between the Third and Fifth Symphonies.
