From late Romanticism to twentieth-century modernism, the Teatro Garibaldi in Figline hosts a concert of extraordinary variety conducted by Diego Ceretta, principal conductor of the Orchestra della Toscana (ORT). A journey through expressive contrasts and instrumental dialogues that unite the intimacy of chamber music with the brilliance of the symphonic repertoire.

The programme opens with Anton Webern’s Langsamer Satz for strings (1905), a youthful masterpiece rich in late-Romantic lyricism and echoes of Brahms and Mahler. It continues with Richard Strauss’s Duetto-Concertino for clarinet, bassoon, strings and harp (1947), a graceful musical tale brought to life by ORT soloists Emilio Checchini and Umberto Codecà.

The evening concludes with Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 11, written at just fifteen: a brilliant synthesis of classical balance, passionate drive and melodic freshness — a perfect finale to a concert celebrating the evolution of musical language from Romantic expressiveness to twentieth-century refinement.
