    From Romanticism to the 20th century, between lyricism and irony: at the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, the ORT presents a programme that alternates between intimate and brilliant pieces, led by Diego Ceretta, principal conductor of the orchestra, who is increasingly involved in a rich programme of events.

    The concert opens with Anton Webern‘s Langsamer Satz for strings, composed in 1905, well before his famous twelve-tone experiments: a youthful piece, inspired by the greats of German Romanticism, combining melancholic cantabile and refined harmonic writing.

    This is followed by Richard Strauss‘s Duetto-Concertino for clarinet, bassoon, strings and harp, written in 1947: a small masterpiece of grace and inventiveness, constructed like a musical story, where the two solo instruments chase each other, confront each other and come together in a dance full of lightness and humour. The protagonists are the first parts of the ORT: Emilio Checchini on clarinet and Umberto Codecà on bassoon.

    The concert closes with Felix Mendelssohn‘s Symphony No. 1, Op. 11, composed at the age of fifteen, which surprises with its formal maturity, rhythmic energy and already fully recognisable lyricism that would become the hallmark of the German composer.
