The Church of Sant’Agostino in Siena will host the opening concert of the Chigiana International Festival 2026 – Isole, dedicated to the centenary of Hans Werner Henze.

On the podium, Kai Röhrig conducts the Orchestra della Toscana alongside the Chigiana Percussion Ensemble, with Jeroen Berwaerts on trumpet and Emanuele Arciuli on piano. The programme is entirely centred on the monumental Requiem – Nine Sacred Concertos, a work that blends concertante writing, ritual dimension and intense expressive tension, in a continuous dialogue between soloists and a large chamber orchestra.

A work of intense complexity, reflecting Henze’s theatrical and spiritual poetics, between formal fragmentation and powerful dramatic cohesion.

An opening concert marking the start of the festival and the tribute to Hans Werner Henze (1926–2012).
