Two works exploring civil and spiritual themes make up the programme conducted by Diego Ceretta for the Orchestra della Toscana, to be performed at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa for the season’s closing concert.

The concert opens with Metamorphosen by Richard Strauss, an elegy for 23 strings composed in the final months of the Second World War, characterised by an intimate style and a strong sense of contrapuntal density.

This is followed by a complete performance of the incidental music for Egmont by Ludwig van Beethoven, inspired by the play by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the theme of freedom against oppression. Joining the ORT are the soprano Chelsea Zurflüh and Peppe Servillo as narrator.
