The Orchestra della Toscana returns to Borgo San Lorenzo for an evening dedicated to the elegance and imagination of early European Romanticism.

At the podium, spanish conductor Julio Garcia Vico — winner of the 2021 London Symphony Orchestra Donatella Flick Conducting Competition — leads a program that pairs Felix Mendelssohn’s imaginative lyricism with the concertante brilliance of Johann Baptist Georg Neruda, featuring ORT principal trumpeter Donato De Sena as soloist.
Mendelssohn’s overture Das Märchen von der schönen Melusine opens the concert with a suspended, fairy-tale atmosphere, followed by the famous Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra, a work of great virtuosity and cantabile. The evening concludes with Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, Op. 90, “Italian,” a work suffused with the light, energy, and colors of the composer’s Italian journey.
