Artistic Director
A Florentine professor and journalist, he has many years of experience in the field of music and a profound knowledge of the subject. After beginning his career as a journalist, his great love for music led him to play various roles in this field, including as a lecturer, a music critic and, lastly, as an artistic director. He has worked as a music critic for the Florence-based newspaper La Nazione for twenty-five years, as well as contributing to Naples-based Il Mattino. In 1981 he began his career as a teacher at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. In 1994 he beat 700 other competitors to be awarded the chair for teaching History of Music at conservatories. Between then and 2006 he taught at Benevento, Piacenza, Pesaro, Florence and Ferrara. During his lengthy career he has been deputy chairman of the Tempo Reale centre for music research and production in Florence, artistic director of RAI’s Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale, of the Teatro Nuovo Giovanni in Udine and the Orchestra Haydn of Bolzano and Trento, as well as curating the Musica Macchina contemporary and electronic music event in Rovereto. In 2021 he was made president of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and the Associazione Culturale Harmonia Cantata, and a member of the board of directors of Tempo Reale. He has curated editions of the Teatro Comunale di Firenze – Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. He has authored numerous essays and research papers, rhythmic versions and translations, he has written for major magazines and contributes to the work of major music institutions through conferences, essays and illustrative notes. He has received the following awards: “Giuseppe Verdi” from Sabaudia, “Fiorentini nel mondo” and “Arturo Toscanini” from Benevento.
He has been the artistic director of the ORT since 1 February 2023.
