The Trio delle Stinche consists of three first parts of the Orchestra della Toscana: Andrea Mancini horn, Stefano Zanobini viola, and Enrico Ruberti double bass.
It takes its name from the old 14th-century prison ‘delle Stinche’ that was located under the present-day Teatro Verdi. The Trio was born from a shared passion for music and a desire to explore lesser-known repertoires, bringing to light rare and precious compositions such as those of Johann Matthias Sperger. Their attention to detail and interpretative approach ensure that each performance is a unique experience, transporting the audience to distant epochs and reviving the magic of musical masterpieces. It is their homage to a composer who has contributed significantly to the musical literature for the double bass and beyond.

The programme they perform is entitled ‘Sperger’s Grin’ and is inspired by a painting of the composer, which depicts his enigmatic smile.
The Duet for viola and double bass is a perfect example of his mastery in combining instruments with contrasting registers. Cassatio No. 3 for horn, viola and double bass reflects the festive, light-hearted spirit typical of this form, which can be traced back to the better-known serenata and divertimento forms.
