    On 13, 14 and 15 July, on the occasion of the Expo in Osaka, Japan “the wind quintet”, Fiati in Opera of the Orchestra della Toscana will fly to Japan to represent the region’s musical excellence within the event ‘Toscana. Rinascimento senza fine‘, a series of appointments promoted by the Region of Tuscany in the Expo pavilions to recount, through art, culture and creativity, the identity of a territory projected towards the future.

    The musical programme proposed by the Quintet is a fascinating journey through the tradition and innovation of Italian music. It opens with Luciano Berio‘s Opus Number Zoo, a small experimental masterpiece where text and music come together in a play of irony and rhythm. This is followed by Nino Rota‘s Piccola offerta musicale, agile and refined pages that encapsulate the composer’s most lyrical and playful spirit.

    The programme continues with a Fantasia on famous Puccini themes from La Bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly and Turandot, arranged for wind quintet: a tribute to the Tuscan genius on the centenary of his death. In closing, the Overture from Giuseppe Verdi‘s Nabucco, an eternal symbol of redemption and unity, here rethought for a chamber ensemble without losing its evocative power.
