He grew up in his native Bolzano until he was 18, then emigrated around the world. A conservatory diploma, the Italian Youth Orchestra, auditions, collaborations as an orchestra substitute, his first competition wins, and a stable job. Two years at the Toscanini Orchestra in Parma, then at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, followed by stints in Rome with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, and even a brief experience with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Finally, in 2007, he left it all behind to teach at a conservatory and focus on a solo and chamber music career with various ensembles, such as the brass quintet GomalanBrass or a duo with piano. He arranges a lot of material for various groups, conducts, and plays the music he chooses for himself, without anyone imposing it on him: “my background is purely classical, but I like to mix a little bit of everything—jazz, Latin American music, very serious and demanding concerts, and others where comedy also plays a role.”
Thus, it’s no surprise that Marco Pierobon was chosen for this debut with the ORT, a visionary and versatile musician, no stranger to unusual ventures for a classical performer. His journey is a musical tour of the Big Apple, recounting the sounds of a city like New York: from the founders of the musical genre, pioneers of the Broadway era, led by George Gershwin, to the symphonic revolution of Leonard Bernstein, from the birth of the first American musical legends to the explosion of success in the masterpieces of the golden age created in both Great Britain and the United States by Andrew Lloyd Webber and John Kander.
