Viennese Classicism and its evolution are at the heart of the programme that Katharina Wincor conducts with the Orchestra della Toscana.

The programme opens with the Coriolan Overture, Op. 62, by Ludwig van Beethoven, an intense and dramatic work inspired by the tragedy by Heinrich Joseph von Collin. This is followed by Franz Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 80, a work rich in contrasts, irony and formal inventiveness: a composition that highlights the freedom with which Haydn works within the forms of the classical symphony.

The second half features Federico Colli as soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in C major, Op. 73, known as the ‘Emperor’, one of the composer’s most expansive and representative piano concertos.

The concert takes place at the Teatro Persio Flacco in Volterra, where the Orchestra della Toscana and the audience come together for an evening dedicated to the great masterpieces of the Viennese repertoire.
