Everyone to the Verdi Theatre!
The new edition of Saturday afternoon shows for children and families is about to begin. The first event will be held on 15 November with an animated tribute to Rossini. This will be followed by Venti Lucenti’s The Nutcracker and MagdaClan’s Mozart the Tightrope Walker.
On Saturday 15 November at the Teatro Verdi in Florence (starting at 4.30 pm), the new season of Tutti al Teatro Verdi! (Everyone to the Verdi Theatre!) kicks off, the ORT festival dedicated to children and their families.
The first of the three productions to be staged is Omaggio a Rossini (Tribute to Rossini), a project that brings together the three animated films of the so-called Rossini Trilogy – La gazza ladra (The Thieving Magpie, 1964), L’italiana in Algeri (The Italian Girl in Algiers, 1968) and Pulcinella (1973) – directed by Emanuele Luzzati and Giulio Gianini.
This collection (released on DVD in 2009) combines the artistic visions of the two authors, inspired by Gioachino Rossini’s operas of the same name, with Luzzati’s animations and drawings and Gianini’s direction and animation. The films in question have won numerous national and international awards, including two Nastri d’Argento and prizes at festivals in Moscow, Annecy, Melbourne and Tehran, as well as Oscar nominations for La gazza ladra and Pulcinella.

The new show by Venti Lucenti
All at the Teatro Verdi will continue on Saturday 13 December (4.30 pm) with the new production by Venti Lucenti, produced by Fondazione CR Firenze and created in collaboration with Fondazione Guido d’Arezzo and Fondazione ORT. A fairy tale in prose based on Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, which tells the story of a gift through music. A tale of magic, snow, confetti and dreams in which everyone faces challenges to grow up and see reality through different eyes. The direction, script and costumes are by Manu Lalli.

Mozart the tightrope walker
The final event will take place on Saturday 17 January (4.30 pm) with the welcome return of Mozart in equilibrio by the contemporary circus company MagdaClan. The music, performed live by the Orchestra della Toscana, blends into an adventurous whirlwind of acrobatic acts performed by the acrobats of one of Italy’s most acclaimed companies. Mozart in Equilibrio is a different way of approaching the great works of the genius from Salzburg. Capillary suspensions, Bulgarian verticals and other breathtaking acts alternate on stage in a show designed for younger audiences but capable of captivating all ages.
