Spanish debut
We are currently engaged in a short tour of Spain. Last night we made our debut in Valladolid, and tonight we will repeat the performance in Salamanca.
The Orchestra della Toscana was a guest last night in Valladolid in the 25-26 season of the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra, bringing to Spain a programme that spanned early German Romanticism with a keen eye on Italy.
On the podium, the ORT’s principal conductor, Diego Ceretta, constructed a two-part programme capable of bringing together worlds that are apparently distant but, in reality, intimately connected. The evening opened with Robert Schumann‘s Overture, Scherzo and Finale, Op. 52, a piece full of momentum and narrative tension, followed by Carl Maria von Weber‘s Clarinet Concerto No. 2 in E flat major, Op. 74, one of the highlights of the Romantic repertoire for the instrument.
The protagonist of this virtuoso performance was the young clarinettist Kevin Spagnolo, an interpreter of great personality, capable of combining technical brilliance and natural expressiveness, who was admired a few days ago in our Teatro Verdi in Florence.
The second part of the programme focused on the Italian influence on Central European Romanticism: from Franz Schubert“s Overture in Italian Style D. 591 to Felix Mendelssohn‘s Symphony No. 4 in A major, Op. 90 ‘Italian”, a famous piece that closed the evening with luminous energy and enthralling rhythm.
The Spanish leg is part of the ORT’s international tour, which also includes a performance at the Centre for Performing Arts and Music (CMAE) in Salamanca. This is a valuable opportunity for artistic exchange and dialogue, in keeping with the Orchestra’s long-standing vocation: to take its musical identity beyond borders, interweaving different traditions and perspectives before new audiences.
